Community-based innovation shaping a resilient digital future.

The West Michigan Center for Arts + Technology (WMCAT) has launched a tuition-free Cybersecurity pathway designed to diversify the tech talent pipeline, support inclusive growth, and expand access to thriving-wage careers, all while safeguarding our most important information and infrastructure. In this sessionyou’ll hear stories of success, lessons learned, and insights on responding to community and industry needs. You’ll also hear from Cybersecurity pathway alumni students, Class of 2025, showcasing their capstone project, GRCIE Space, highlighting the significance of space weather and its impact on high-tech industries across Grand Rapids and West Michigan. In this capstone, WMCAT students step into the simulated role of technologists working inside real-world companies mandated to prove cyber resilience to these emerging environmental threats. You’ll have the opportunity to see how each team responded to a simulated insurer mandate requiring operational space weather monitoring, cybersecurity controls, and governance frameworks to maintain business continuity certification. Whether you attend for the presentation on our Cybersecurity pathway or explore our alumni’s work during the showcase, you’ll walk away inspired by the talent, creativity, and technical skill of our students, and with a deeper understanding of how diversifying the tech workforce through community-based innovation is helping shape a more inclusive, resilient digital future.
