How Small Moments Build a Culture People Notice
Ask people at Array of Engineers, a software engineering team, what makes the culture work and they don't just talk about the retreat. They talk about the snack cabinet, board games on Friday, a five-minute drawing activity before the monthly team meeting, or a lunch and learn that wasn't technical at all, it was about how to buy a house, because people were trying to figure that out.
That's the thread: we're not investing in employees, we're investing in people. We have the conversations to find out what matters most to people and then provide the resources and activities that support them. From providing Root Wellness to a quiet space for a new mom to hosting a FIFA tournament.
Culture gets built in the small, deliberate moments, repeated consistently and owned by everybody rather than one person in HR, including in tech & engineering orgs, where "culture" often gets treated as someone else's job.
In this session we'll share how we intentionally approach culture: the segue activities that start our meetings, the learning opportunities that take care of the whole person, and the rituals that now run themselves. You'll try a few firsthand, hear from a panel on their perspectives, and speak to people directly on how to get started in your community to try out.
